How does Xel Dynamics support its clients?


We develop comprehensive plans covering project siting, interconnection point selection, queue entry, study coordination, upgrade cost management, and market delivery readiness. 

Xel Dynamics evaluates transmission capacity, congestion, competing projects, reliability, cost allocation, regulatory requirements, and schedule risks to determine optimal project locations. This process enables clients to select robust projects, minimize uncertainty, and transition efficiently from initial screening to commercial operation.


Large loads, such as data centers, industrial facilities, hydrogen plants, and EV-charging hubs, can significantly impact transmission and distribution systems. These impacts include increased power flows, congestion, peak demand, reserve requirements, and the need for network upgrades. Large loads may also introduce concerns related to voltage, stability, frequency, contingencies, and power quality, as well as affect generation dispatch, locational marginal prices, outage coordination, and operating limits. Flexible large loads can support the grid through demand response, load shifting, onsite generation, and battery storage. Key assessments include studies of power flow, contingencies, voltage, short-circuit, stability, power quality, congestion, deliverability, and upgrade costs and schedules. 


What are regulators (Federal and state) doing to solve this issue? 


Federal and state regulators are strengthening large-load interconnection, planning, and operating rules to maintain grid reliability and protect current customers. New measures include coordinated batch studies, improved load modeling and ride-through requirements, specialized large-load tariffs, minimum contract and billing terms, transparent upgrade-cost sharing, resource adequacy checks, and incentives for demand flexibility, on-site generation, and battery storage.
